Setup steps

Open the Connectors settings

In Claude Desktop, go to Settings → Connectors, then click Add custom connector.

Don't see the button? Your workspace admin needs to enable custom connectors (Team / Enterprise plans).

Paste the SmartScout server URL

Enter this as the Remote MCP server URL. Leave Client ID and Client Secret blank.

Click Save. Claude Desktop will open a browser window to authorize.

Enter your API key to authorize

Login to SmartScout, paste your SmartScout API key and click Connect.

Your key is sent only to api.smartscout.com on each tool call — it's never logged or stored on the server.

Start using the tools

Open a new chat. The SmartScout tools appear in the tools tray. Try asking:

"Use SmartScout to show me the top brands in the coffee maker subcategory"

20 tools available: product / brand / seller / keyword search, sales history, organic ranks, ad spy, and one-call profile rollups.

How to know it worked

The connector shows as Connected in Settings → Connectors.

SmartScout tools appear in the tools tray of a new chat.

Asking Claude to "check SmartScout server status" returns {"status":"ok"}.

Troubleshooting

Workspace admin must enable custom connectors (Team / Enterprise). Or use a Pro account.

"Invalid SmartScout API key"

Your key is wrong or expired. Re-authorize with a valid key from your SmartScout account.

Tools don't appear after connecting

"Authentication required" mid-session
